Expert Solicits Partnership On Food Sufficiency

The Rivers State Director of Selulant Project Limited, Ambassador Green Isaac, says the present Federal Government needs support efforts in making food available to Nigerians.
Green who spoke to The Tide on the expectations of the just-concluded 42nd Regular Meeting of the National Council on Agriculture and Rural Development (NCARD), in Port Harcourt explained that Selulant worked in partnership with the Federal Government in support of the Growth Enhancement Support (GES) scheme.
On the practical benefits that could be derived from such meetings on agriculture, he explained that “it is important and good to meet and look at the past and also decide on what will happen in the future”.
He opined that without such meetings, stakeholders would not have the opportunity to decide policy issues that have to do with agricultural development.
Speaking on the absence of irrigation in the southern part of the country, the ambassador said apart from putting the necessary apparatus in place, guidelines in that regard should be looked into.
On the near apathy shown by some Nigerians on the impact or otherwise of such confabs, Isaac, said while the Federal government was playing its part, implementation should be supported by the grassroots stakeholders in the agric sector.
“We are the stakeholders, we are the farmers and the emphasis lies on farming by the locals to enable the communities improve the society in terms of food security”, he said.
