Commissioner Lauds CBN’s Entrepreneurship Initiative In Calabar
The Cross River State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mrs. Rosemary Archibong has commended the efforts and commitment of the CBN South-South Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC), Calabar, for its proficiency in helping youths harness their creativity and actualise their dreams.
Mrs. Archibong gave the commendation during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Information and Orientation in conjunction with the Cross River Broadcasting Corporation and the South-South Entrepreneurship Development Centre Calabar, at the ministry’s conference room.
She emphasised that though EDC has impacted so many young persons on business development, more still needs to be achieved as there are a lot of people without a clue of what to do and how to harness their God given potentials to become entrepreneurs, adding that some people think that to be an entrepreneur, one must have huge capital.
Commissioner Archibong expressed her delight stating that the ministry is probably positioned to help disseminate information and let the youths know of the limitless opportunities to articulate their ideas and become employers of labour rather than waiting for the unavailable government jobs and appointment.
She inferred that Entrepreneurship is simply identifying a lacuna, using creative thinking to fill that gap and getting money in return thereby becoming employers of labour, pointing out that some youths with great potentials and creativity lack confidence, guts and resilience to embark and sustain the idea.
In her remarks, the General Manager, Cross River Broadcasting Cooperation, (CRBC), Dr. Mrs. Theresa Essien, expressed her fascination at the concept of training people to be business oriented, stating that they may stay at home with these ideas without the knowhow of becoming self-reliant.
Dr. Essien advocated that the EDC team should make available information that would allow the TV crew produce several programmes and what time to be aired to avoid programme failure and increase confidence on the part of the viewers, adding that she believes that the collaboration would be successful as it would open doors for people to know about entrepreneur lifestyle.
Speaking earlier, the Programme Manager, CBN South-South Entrepreneurship Development Centre, Mr. Emeka Nnamani appreciated the Commissioner, General Manager, CRBC and the entire team for the opportunity to collaborate with them.
