Community Protests Forceful Invasion Of Land
A mammoth crowd of protesters from Kor Community in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers state last Friday thronged major streets of Bori, the headquarters of Khana Local Government, protesting against the forceful invasion of their land by their neighbouring Wiiyakara Community.
The protesters, comprising of women, youth and elders of the community, commenced their peaceful demonstration in the wee hours of the day, carrying placards with varying inscriptions such as; “Wiiyakara leave our land alone,” “Government save our land from encroachment”, “we need justice in Kor Community”, among others.
The protesters adorned black attires to register their discontent as they marched to the local government council secretariat and the Bori divisional police headquarters.
Addressing the mammoth crowd of protesters at the local government council secretariat, the Supervisor for Works, Mr. Neeka Idemyor, who represented the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the council, Barida Nsanee, thanked the people of Kor Community for their peaceful conduct during the protest.
He said he will relate their grievances to the council authorities for proper attention and action.
Also addressing the protesters at the Bori Divisional police headquarters, the Divisional Police Officer, SP Cletus Umoke, assured that proper attention will be given to the issue in contention, and charged the parties involved to comply with a previous agreement reached on the matter.
Speaking with The Tide, the Paramount Ruler, of Kor Community, Mene Vincent Nabee James, expressed dismay over the forceful invasion of the affected land by the neighbouring Wiiyakara community.
