Institute Urges Effective ADR In Oil Industry
The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), has called for effective arbitration and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) as a means to assuage the negative effect of disputes that often characterise the operations of oil and gas industry, well as other economic sectors.
The chairman of the Nigerian branch of the institute, Mrs. Adedoyin Rhodes-Vivor said this during the 2016 Annual Conference of CIArb, in Port Harcourt.
Rhodes-Vivor said that arbitration remains the alternative means of dispute resolution that will reduce the pressure on the court system in the country.
The chairman noted that the 2016 annual conference with the theme: “Exploring New Frontiers in Arbitration and ADR”, was timely as new frontiers are emerging in arbitration and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) plane.
Earlier, the chairman of the conference planning committee, Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, said that the “continued entrenchment of Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in Nigeria, particularly as a tool for economic recovery and national development was important to CIArb.
Also speaking, the former governor of Rivers State, Sir Celestine Omehia, said that arbitration remains the fastest, shortest and less expensive way of setling disputes.
