Group Plans Peace Concert In Ekpeye
An Ahoada-based Non-
Governmental Organisation, “Peoples Encourages Initiative (PEIN) says it was working with the Ekepeye youth organisation for a peace concert in all Ekpeye communities both in Ahoada East and West local government areas.
The executive director of the organisation, Mr Chukwuma Abraham, who said this in a press briefing in Port Harcourt, said that the concert, with the theme: “Ekpeye for Permanent Peace” will hold from 28th November to 4th December, 2016.
Abraham said that the concert was part of efforts by the organisation to bring permanent peace to communities in Ekpeye land both in Ahoada East and West local government areas.
He said that the concert will feature programme such as peace and reconciliation seminar, couching a road map for rural cottage industry and skill acquisition opportunities, counseling session for youth on self-reliance and self –sustenance and peace and unity foot-ball competition.
Also to feature at the concerts are the signing of peace accord, thanksgiving service as well as HIV/AIDS counseling programme.
He decried the rate of violence not only in Ekpeye but across the country, stressing that this situation demands urgent attention by government.
He commended the Rivers State government for the amnesty programme, but added that youths involved in the programme must be provided with employment opportunities to enable them contribute positively to the society.

Rivers Judiciary Denies Issuing Court Order Stopping SOLAD from Swearing in RSCSC Members
The Rivers State Judiciary has denied a media report claiming that Justice Frank Onyiri of the State High Court issued an injunction order restraining the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), from inaugurating the newly appointed members of the Rivers State Civil Service Commission (RSCSC).
In a statement issued by the Deputy Chief Registrar in charge of litigation at the High Court, Menenen Poromon (Esq), the state Judiciary disassociated itself from the report, describing it as malicious and fabricated.
The statement emphasized that the report was a falsehood and a misrepresentation of what transpeared in the court.
Poromon clarified that no such order was issued by Justice Onyiri or any other judge of the High Court of the state and urged the public to disregard the information, as it lacked any iota of truth.
The statement however advised the public to verify any information concerning the state Judiciary directly from the office of the Chief Registrar, High Court of the State, to avoid spreading of misinformation.
