SON To Prosecute Importers Of Fake Products
The Standard
Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has reiterated its determination to prosecute importers of fake products into the country.
A statement issued in Lagos and signed by the newly appointed Director General of the organisation, Mr Aboloma Anthony Osita, on Friday said that the proposed prosecution of fake products importers and marketers of sub-standard products would mark a new beginning in the agency’s fight against peddlers of inferior products into the country.
Osita said that the menace of influx of sub-standard products is highly dangerous to the growth of the nation’s economy and human health stressing that no stone will be left unturned under his leadership of the agency to fight peddlers of fake products in the country.
He said that its not going to be business as usual as efforts will be stepped up to discourage the importation of fake products.
He said that SON will be proactive in stopping the sub-standard products in the country, adding that influx of substandard goods is a disaster to the nation’s economy especially now that the present administration is very serious about diversifying the economy from oil to non oil sector.
The newly appointed DG explained that the agency will intensify efforts to get the Chinese government to sign MoU with SON as a way of fighting the scourge of influx of substandard products and ensure products authentication and product sealing to detect substandard products.
He said that effort will help not only the agency but consumers in identifying substandard products quickly.
He promised to embark on a nationwide campaign to sensitize consumers, importers and manufacturers of the negative impact of fake products on the economy and human health.
