RVHA Assures Bright Future For Rivers Youth …As NYCN Amends 2014 Bye-Laws
The Rivers State house
of Assembly says efforts are being made by the State Legislators to ensure that the future of youth is guaranteed through enactment of enabling laws that would become the base for which youth can channel their issues in the state.
The Chairman, House Committee on youth Affairs in the House of Assembly, Hon. Mannah Martins, disclosed this while speaking at the extra-ordinary State congress organised by the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), State Chapter at the Delta Hotels, Port Harcourt, over the weekend.
Mannah, who represents Ahoada West Constituency in the State Assembly promised that the State Legislature would enshrine the State NYCN bye-law into the state laws in other to enable the youth have a channel for which they can ventilate their issues, adding that the State Assembly was determined to ensure that the future of the youth was secured.
The State lawmaker regretted that only 18% of the youth were gainfully employed, and added that over 85% of youth were unemployed, the situation, which he said, was responsible for the increase in violence across the state.
According to him, rate of unemployment among the youth was unacceptable, adding that they must be engaged for a better and peaceful society.
Also speaking, the acting National President, (NYCN), Com. Ibunkun Oluwole, urged government at all levels to involve the youth in policy formation of their administration, adding that they know the problems more than anyone else.
In his remarks, the State Chairman, NYCN, Amb Sukubo-Sara-Igbe-Sukubo, described the event as historic in the annals of the organisation.
Other highlights was the amendment of the NYCN 2014 bye-laws.
