Motorists Want More Traffic Lights In PH
With the functioning of
the traffic light at the Azikiwe-Abonnema Wharf junction in Port Harcourt, that was rehabilitated by the present administration of Governor Nyesom Wike recently, some motorists are now glamouring that such provisions should be extended to other major inter-sections and junctions in the state capital.
The motorists who made the call in an interview with The Tide correspondent in Port Harcourt, said the traffic light had beautified the area and also eased free flow of traffic.
According to them, the same could be replicated in other inter-sections and major junctions like Waterlines, Rumuola, Rumuokwuta, Bori Camp Junction, Airforce Base, Market Junction as well as First and Second Artillery, Emenike, among others, and would further alleviate the traffic difficulty experienced in these areas.
They commended the government for its bold steps in ensuring free flow of traffic both in the day and night, as well as the road networks constructed and rehabilitated across Port Harcourt and its environs, describing it as a right step in the right direction.
They also appealed for their maintenance and protection against damage by reckless heavy duty drivers, and enjoined all to obey the traffic rules while on the road.
Dr. Adonye Jumbo said with traffic lights in other major junctions, it would help free flow of traffic at all times and appealed to the government to consider such appeals in its development projects.
Also speaking Steve Seipiribo said the traffic lights at the Azikiwe-Abonnema Wharf Junction was a welcome development as it had given the city a new look, that Port Harcourt was fast returning to its status of Garden City of Nigeria.
Seipiribo noted that with such lights in other junctions, it would illuminate the city, coupled with the network of access roads.
Also, Mr Godspower Akaniwo expressed optimism that the present administration will surely provide traffic lights in other areas in order to ensure that the incessant hold-ups and go-slows become a thing of the past in the state.
He commended the Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike for his pragmatic efforts in alleviating the plight of the motorists and public.
