Okowa Mourns Justice Niki Tobi

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa
of Delta State has in Asaba condoled with the family of late retired Justice of the Supreme Court, Niki Tobi.
This is contained in a statement issued by Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Charles Ehiedu Aniagwu.
“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I commiserate with the Nikki Tobi family, the Ijaw nation and Nigerians on the demise of the erudite teacher and jurist, Justice Tobi.
“Justice Nikki Tobi was a man of many parts, who excelled wherever he found himself, leaving behind trails of credibility and integrity.
“Justice Tobi excelled in two difficult worlds.
“He was excellent in the academic world as a lecturer and became a reference point in the legal world.
“I am shocked and pained by this death. A man of humility, credibility and high integrity has passed on,” Okowa said.
Okowa said that Tobi’s death was not only shocking but painful, given his pedigree, capacity and contributions to the development of the law profession in Nigeria.
The governor said that Tobi was a pride to the Ijaw nation and Delta, adding that he also made the country proud through his contributions to the development of law practice in Nigeria.
Okowa described Tobi’s tenure at the Supreme Court as one of the best in the history of the court, adding that the renowned jurist was a gift to the Niger Delta.
He further prayed God to grant his soul eternal rest and comfort his family and all followers of the contributions of the former Supreme Court judge.
Tobi, who died on June 17 at the National Hospital, Abuja, nearly one month to his 76th birthday, was born July 14, 1940, in Esanma in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta.
Tobi retired on July 14, 2010 as a Justice of the Supreme Court.
He was an academic before his career on the bench.
As an academic, he was variously the Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Maiduguri, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Services) of the same institution.
