The Tide Staff ‘Innocent’ Buried Amidst Tears

day when the body of the late staff of the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation (RSNC) Publishers of The Tide Newspaper, Comrade Innocent Ohanuna, was buried at his home town, Afara in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Comrade Ohanuna who until his demise was Chief Driver with the Corporation, was killed by some unknown blood-thirsty gunmen on December 31, 2015 at Marine Base Waterfront, while he was on official duty.
The flow of tears from members of RSNC family, friends and relations of the deceased began from the mortuary of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) Choba to Egwi, his maternal home and to Afara where his silver coloured coffin was lowered beside that of his late father’s grave who was equally buried the same day .
Speaking at his funeral ceremony, former Chairman, RSNC Board of Directors, Chief Isaiah Choko, who incidentally was an uncle to the late Ohanuna, and had lived with him as a father said, “he was “very friendly, loyal and hardworking.
Choko, who battled with tears while delivering his tribute said, his relationship with the late Innocent was like that of father and son, stressing that if reincarnation was real, neither the deceased nor any of his children would be driver to anybody again.
The Director of Administration of RSNC, Mrs Emi Jameson, who spoke on behalf of the management and staff of the corporation, eulogised the deceased as hardworking, humble and friendly, said the death of the late staff was a source of sorrow to the entire RSNC family.
She promised that management would continue to show care and support to the bereaved wife and children, adding that “the management plans to consider for employment one member of the family for sustained support to them.”
Jameson said the corporation would continue to mount pressure on the police to until they fished out those behind the gruesome murder, and urged the family members to take heart.
