Monitor Filling Stations In Rivers -NUPENG
The Nigerian Union of Pe
troleum and National Gas Workers (NUPENG) has called on the Directorate of Petroleum Resources to monitor the various filling stations across the state to avoid further handship on the people caused by the filling stations owners through scarcity of Petroleum Products.
Speaking to The Tide in Port Harcourt on Monday, the National President of the Union, Comrade Achese Igwe said that filling stations owners in Rivers State are intentionally hoarding petrol products for quick profits and wonder why the management of the DPR cannot check such criminal activities of such persons.
Achese said that the leadership of the union has made all efforts to call the attention of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) to the present situation in the state, stressing that whatever problems that had led to the artificial scarcity of the petrol product would soon be addressed.
He said that DPR needs to live up to the expectation of the people of the state through regular monitoring of filling stations, stressing that the lacuna in the activities of the regulatory agency has created a situation where filling station owners have taken undue advantage to hoard fuel and sell above normal price.
The NUPENG boss said that the Union has set up a taskforce to monitor the various filling stations in the state, but added that the union cannot do it alone without the collaborative efforts of the government, regulatory agency and the general public.
He appealed to IPMAN and its members to consider the plight of the people in view of the present economic reality and reverse the current price situation in which N120 and N110 per litre of petrol is the current anofficial pump price of fuel in the state.
Achese said that the union would mobilize to work with the state government taskforce to seal off filling station selling petro product above approved price to serve as deterrent to other filling station owners in the state.
