Expert Tasks Parents On Quality Education
A retired Vice
Principal, Mrs Gloria Asiodu, has called on parents to support the education of their children to curtail the fallen standard of education in Nigeria.
She made the call in Asaba in an interview with newsmen recently.
She said that lack of support by most parents had contributed to the fallen standard of education in the country.
She appealed to parents and guardians to support the education of their children and wards to enable them grow into responsible and educated citizens.
“As parents and guardians, one thing you can do for your children and wards is to help them develop their reading skills.
“As parents and guardians, you can also support the education of your children and wards by putting them through with their homework.
“Homework can help children develop positive study skills and habits as well as improve their thinking and memory abilities.
“Homework can also encourage them to use time well, learn independently and take responsibility for their work,’’ she said.
Asiodu also advised parents and guardians to ensure that they prepare their children to become responsible adults and leaders of tomorrow.
“Just as children must be taught to read and write and solve mathematics, so must they be guided in developing good morals, good character valued by their families and by the communities in which they live,’’ she added.
She identified lack of teaching materials and infrastructure as some of the major factors contributing to the fallen standard in education in Nigeria.
The educationist appealed to the government and stakeholders to assist in addressing the challenges.
