2016: Cleric Tasks Leaders On Patriotism
A cleric, Rev. Fr. Patrick
Eneyo, has urged leaders at all levels to use the joy of the New Year to render selfless service that will give hope to all Nigerians.
Eneyo, who is the Parish Priest of St. Peters Catholic Church, Calabar, made the call during a Church service held to celebrate the commencement of the New Year.
According to him, the expectations of Nigerians toward their leaders are very high, hence the need for leaders to show patriotism and transparency in all they do.
He said most Nigerians have lost their trust in a majority of the leaders because the leaders forget the promises they made to the people as soon as they clinched to those positions.
The cleric, however, urged Nigerians to thank God for seeing the New Year, stressing that in spite of the challenges in the country, “God has kept Nigeria strong and united as a country.
“At this time of the year, my message is that there is hope for a better Nigeria.
“What I expect our leaders to do is to give hope to the people by listening to them and giving them what they need without being prompted.
“We must continue to remain one indivisible country in spite of the economic and political challenges facing the nation.
“We must use the celebration of the New Year to demonstrate love, tolerance, kindness and perseverance as exemplified by Jesus Christ.’’
Eneyo, who described Jesus Christ as an epitome of humility and kind-heartedness, urged Christians to imbibe His virtues to ensure a worthy society.
He added that “as we celebrate the New Year, I call on all Nigerians to use the celebration to seek the face of God for peace to reign in the country.’’
He then appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to extend their hands of goodwill to the less privileged in the society, adding that “God will always bless the hand that remembers the poor.’’
