Eschew Violence, NOA Boss Tells Gokana People
The Rivers State Director, National Orientation Agency, Mr Oliver Wolugbom has called on the people of Gokana to eschew violence and embrace peace.
Wolugbom made the call at a one day sensitisation programme on wage peace initiated by Nigeria stability and reconciliation programme in collaboration with National Orientation Agency.
Speaking during the programme, the NOA boss decried the high level of killing and blood shed going on in Gokana local government area. According to the State Director, Gokana is one local government that benefited most in terms of government representation and wondered why they should allow violence and crime to disrupt peace in the area.
Wolugbom however stressed the need for traditional rulers to take appropriate and pragmatic steps, on how best to bring lasting peace to Gokana.
Speaking earlier, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Gokana Mr Edet Okon, had expressed sadness with what is going on in the area like cultism, killing and threat to life. He said, peace is needed in Gokana hence he called on politicians to speak to their supporters on the need to maintain peace.
He also called on traditional rulers to live up to expectation in their domain and furnish the police with useful information that would aid them to fish out these miscreants.
He then assured the people, that the police would not relent until sanity returns to the area.
Also speaking paramount ruler of Bomu community, Chief Charles Tenalo, who condemned spite of violence in the land, called on relevant authority to come to their aid to address the problem. He charged top government officials and politicians from the area to help stop this madness.
