Summit To Check Excesses Of Fake Trado Medicine Dealers
The National Association of Nigerian Traditional Medicine Practitioners (NANTMP) says it has concluded plans to organise a national summit to discuss the way forward for traditional medicine practitioners in Rivers State soon.
The event, with the theme “Stakeholders Consultative/Sensitisation Summit” scheduled to hold in Port Harcourt on March 23, would extensively and critically examine the excesses of fake traditional medicine practitioners in the state, sensitise the general public on the attendant effects of patronizing such dealers.
The State Chairman/Coordinator of the association, Chief (Dr.) Nyefibo Nyefibo who spoke with The Tide in an interview after the association’s inauguration in Port Harcourt recently explained that the summit which is the first of its kind in the state would focus on how to improve on traditional medicine to the benefit of the public, among other crucial issues.
According to Chief Nyefibo, the body would also hold what he called a herbal trade fair where practitioners and dealers would showcase their products and proficiency, stressing the need to enlighten the people on the use and importance of herbal medicines.
The Chairman, who specifically cautioned against the patronage of traditional medicine hawkers, pointed out the danger of consuming their products.
According to him, there is no place in the world except Nigeria, where orthodox medicines are hawked, saying “such dealers are not registered with the association and their practice is against the ethics of the profession, so they should be checked”.
“Drug is regulated, so we want to partner with government to deal with those who flout the law. Governments should set their eyes on fake drug dealers who endanger the people’s lives,” Chief Nyefibo stressed and commended the Federal and Rivers State governments for the swift actions they took during the outburst of Ebola Virus Disease in the country.

Rivers Judiciary Denies Issuing Court Order Stopping SOLAD from Swearing in RSCSC Members
The Rivers State Judiciary has denied a media report claiming that Justice Frank Onyiri of the State High Court issued an injunction order restraining the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), from inaugurating the newly appointed members of the Rivers State Civil Service Commission (RSCSC).
In a statement issued by the Deputy Chief Registrar in charge of litigation at the High Court, Menenen Poromon (Esq), the state Judiciary disassociated itself from the report, describing it as malicious and fabricated.
The statement emphasized that the report was a falsehood and a misrepresentation of what transpeared in the court.
Poromon clarified that no such order was issued by Justice Onyiri or any other judge of the High Court of the state and urged the public to disregard the information, as it lacked any iota of truth.
The statement however advised the public to verify any information concerning the state Judiciary directly from the office of the Chief Registrar, High Court of the State, to avoid spreading of misinformation.
