Commissioner Charges Retirees On Productive Life
No fewer than 14 retirees
in the Rivers State Ministry of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation have been charged to continue serving society even as they leave the civil service.
Commissioner for Ministry of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation, Mr. Joe Poroma gave the charge last weekend during a send, forth party for retired and transferred staffers held at the Secretariat Complex in Port Harcourt.
Mr. Poroma while thanking them for contributing positively to the upliftment of the ministry said, “It’s not easy to work in a ministry that deals with human beings, saving and protecting of lives”.
He enjoined them to make the best of life during this period, saying “no matter what happens tomorrow you are still a friend of the ministry”.
The commissioner advised them not to abandon skills they had acquired tendering to people and wished them well in their future endeavours.
Responding on behalf of the retired staffers, former Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr. Stella Toby thanked the commissioner and staffers for the kind gesture shown to them.
Dr. Toby charged the staffers to always try their best, stating that “the ministry is a unique one as it tends to the needs of society”.
Current Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Kadilo Brown said the programme was organised to appreciate their hardwork and dedication to the service,
In the word of Brown, “It’s not easy to work for 35 years and be appreciated … Retirement should bring joy and happiness and brings of us to another phase of life”.
