Servicom Boss Tasks Officers On Accountability
The Special Assistant to
the President and Coordinator of Servicom, Mr Sylbriks Obriki has tasked Nodal Officers on accountability and transparency in order to ensure efficient service delivery.
Obriki said this at a three-day workshop organised by Servicom Office for Nodal Officers of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), titled: “Understanding Servicom Measurement Tools’’ in Abuja.
He said that the effectiveness of service delivery depended on commitment, accountability and transparency of the Nodal Officers.
“In order to ensure these qualities, there must be a cordial relationship between the MDAs and their different customer groups through the formulation and implementation of service charter.
He said that the purpose of Servicom was to improve the quality of lives of citizens through the provision of basic service that would improve their standard of living.
According to him, good governance is adjudged by how satisfactorily government touches the lives of people and it is through the commitment of the officer that the lives of people can be touched positively.
Obriki noted that most MDAs did not have suitable service charter, while only a few implement their service charters as day to day operational tools in their service delivery process.
“To ensure that MDAs have suitable and implementable service charters, the Servicom Office has made it one of its strategic goals.
“This workshop will help us to formulate and implement suitable service charters as our day to day operational instrument on how to measure and report performance based on set targets and standards.’’
He said that service delivery was key to governance and central to the achievement of the President‘s Transformation Agenda.
He, therefore, charged the participants to evolve concrete ways to domicile the initiative in MDAs for citizen-focused service delivery to thrive in Nigeria.
Also speaking, Mr Ben Arikpo, the National Programme Manager, Federal Public Administration Reform Programme (FEPAR), urged participants to be committed to quality service delivery.
Arikpo charged the participants to ensure that public demands were satisfied at all levels of service delivery chains.
Mrs Gloria Okolo, the Nodal Officer, FCT Water Board, told journalist, that the workshop would enable the participants to improve in quality service delivery.
According to her, service delivery is not a one-off thing; it is such a circle that requires constant research and innovation on how to serve the customers better at all times.
“This workshop will help us to share ideas together and know the areas we are not doing well and then make corrections,’’ she said.
