Rivers FRSC Marks 2014 Africa Road Safety Day

Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has marked its 2014 Africa Road Safety Day and World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Crash Victims.
The Sector Commander, Sunday Oghenekaro had during a press conference held at the command’s conference room on Thursday said that the continued decimation of the world population especially African countries that are most affected by preventable road cashes roused local and international concerns on the need for a concerted and collective action for this celebration.
Oghenekaro disclosed that the thrust of the African Union (AU) Executive Council decision and the United Nations resolution stressed the need to identify with the victims and families of road traffic crash victims, to draw public attention through road safety rallies on the dangers associated with road crashes as well as solicit the support of road users on the need to embrace and ensure best practice while using the road.
According to him, with the theme of the public awareness effort for the 2014 Remembrance of Road Traffic Crash victims as “Speed kills design out speeding,” it is expected of the FRSC that road users must realise that there are dangers on the road, and that with the collective efforts of everybody, the dangers associated with it could be prevented.
He hinted that the command expected all road users to take advantage of the public outreach events to key-in and ensure improved road safety habit.
“Our collective responsible road safety actions will make the road safe for better and wholesome life for all,” the sector commander said, adding, “we are to call to mind the theme of this year’s “Ember months” Road Safety Campaign, Road Safety is a shared responsibility, it depends on you;
Oghenekaro further stressed the need for change attitude for safer roads that the AU and the UN recommended the annual event to commemorate the 2014 Remembrance of toad traffic crash victims and map-out activities to share-up support for road safety, and assured that in partnership with all relevant stakeholders, they would continue their efforts on public enlightenment to secure the roads for the promotion of safety.
