Shippers Association Gets New Name
The Nigerian Shippers
Council (NSC) Senior Staff Association has got a new name. It is Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE).
The decision for the association to get a new name was the high point of the associations fifth triennial delegates conference which took place at Otta, Ogun State.
The outgoing President of the association, Mr. Michael Fadipe said the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) branch incidentally brought to an end the journey that started three years ago under the new union (AUPCTRE).
“It would interest you to note that the choice of AUPTCRE as a union was strongly informed by the recommendations and confidential report made by experts in the offices of the Head of Service, Establishments, Training and Pensions Bureau and Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity. Since we joined AUPCTRE in January 31, 2012, we have not had cause to regret that decision.”
He said deriving from the theme of this conference, which is ‘The Role of Labour Union in a Regulatory Environment’ this conference marked a departure from the former union into the new union.
By this we mean that the former name and structure associated with the former union will end here, while the incoming administration is expected to subsume itself entirely into the nomenclature and structure of AUPCTRE.
That is those that will be elected will function under the National Co-ordination Committee (NCC) of Shippers Council in line with the Union constitution under the guidance of the Secretary, Federal Organisation Lagos, Comrade Emmanuel Opara, who also played a key role in the affiliation efforts of the association” he said.
He also charged them to extend their unique role and continuous service to the NSC and its incoming officers to strive to maintain the cordial relationship that had existed between the union and other higher organisations of the union. We should grow from strength to strength and ensure that the yearning and aspiration of our members are achieved at all times.”
In his acceptance speech Mr. Adikwu on behalf of the newly elected officers said: “This leadership will operate on the rules of the almighty God as regards to relationship without members and non-members alike.”
He further said his leadership would consult and welcome ideas from elite members of the association especially past presidents, advisers and to other relevant persons in the interest and growth of association.
“I will ensure and engage in viable financial base for the association by engaging in profitable business venture, joining the cooperative, owning properties, mortgage and disposal of same for the purpose of the attaining higher financial base for the Association”, Adikwu said.
