The Federal Mortgage
Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) has said that it is putting everything together to ensure that it begins to issue ATM cards to the Contributors of National Housing Fund (NHF) to enable them acesss their contributions and obtain information on such contributions.
Making this known while delivering her speech at the send-off ceremony organized by The Tide Chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) for its retired members held in Port Harcourt, recently the FMBN representative in Port Harcourt, Mrs Nkiruka Andrew, said that such package has become imperative in view of contemporary demands and the level of technology.
She said that the ATM card would enable contributors to check their balances on their contribtion, adding that anytime from now, that forms would be given out to contributors, which will enable them to be receiving alert on their contribution on regular basis.
Andrew explained that the Mortgage market has remained undeveloped in Nigeria, and that such is the reason why FMBN and other instituions are making efforts to tackle the matter.
According to her, one of the challenges facing the FMBN is the legal framework that will spell out its conditions for issuing out loans, stressing that such legal framework will guarantee those who have land with the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) to have access to such loan facility.
She also maintained that the FMBN is determined to give out loan up to the tune of N15 million, which can be spread to up to 30 years, with an interest rate as low as six per cent which she said still remained a single digit and the lowest any where in Nigeria.
