The Rivers State Govern
ment says the public works component of the State Employment and Expenditure For Results (SEEFOR) project will gulp the sum of $22.42 million within the next five years.
Similarly, $4.2 million has been budgeted in 2014 for road maintenance and waste management activities under the project.
The Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Gogo Levi Charles, who disclosed this while declaring open an orientation programme for youths in Port Harcourt, also said that the 2014 workplan of the project would lead to the engagement of 1500 youths in public works.
Charles said that the programme was part of the effort by the government to create employment opportunities for youths in the state.
He said that the government was of the view that the creation of employment opportunities for youths would check the rate of criminality in the society, stressing that it was against this background that the government set up the banana plantation and the various fish farms across the state.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Rivers State Road Maintenance Agency, Elder Chidi Wiyioka said that the youths would undertake the maintenance of more than 10 roads in the three Senatorial districts and local government areas.
Elder Wiyioka said that the programme would take youths away from crime, and restated the determination of the agency to ensure its success.
In his address, the state project co-ordinator, Mr Precious Amos, said that SEEFOR was conceived by the federal and state governments with support from the World Bank and European Union (EU) to enhance opportunities for youth employment access to socio-economic services, while improving the public expenditure management systems in the participating states.

Rivers Judiciary Denies Issuing Court Order Stopping SOLAD from Swearing in RSCSC Members
The Rivers State Judiciary has denied a media report claiming that Justice Frank Onyiri of the State High Court issued an injunction order restraining the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), from inaugurating the newly appointed members of the Rivers State Civil Service Commission (RSCSC).
In a statement issued by the Deputy Chief Registrar in charge of litigation at the High Court, Menenen Poromon (Esq), the state Judiciary disassociated itself from the report, describing it as malicious and fabricated.
The statement emphasized that the report was a falsehood and a misrepresentation of what transpeared in the court.
Poromon clarified that no such order was issued by Justice Onyiri or any other judge of the High Court of the state and urged the public to disregard the information, as it lacked any iota of truth.
The statement however advised the public to verify any information concerning the state Judiciary directly from the office of the Chief Registrar, High Court of the State, to avoid spreading of misinformation.
