MDGs: Nasarawa To Execute 156 Projects
A total of 156 develop
ment projects will be executed this year by the Nasarawa State Government under the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) programme, an official has said.
Senior Special Assistant to Governor Tanko Al-Makura, on MDGs, Dr Mohammed Salisu, disclosed this in an interview with journalists in Lafia.
He said the state government had provided its counterpart funding for the projects.
According to him, the implementation of the projects would improve the living standard of the citizens of the state and enhance development of the country.
“As we are all aware, the importance of the MDGs projects to the socio-economic development of our state and the country at large cannot be over-emphasised.
“It will help us to fight unemployment, reduce poverty, hunger as well as improve the standard of living of the people.
“It will also reduce child mortality, improve maternity, combat HIV and malaria, promote gender equality and women empowerment.
“It will assist us in achieving the goals of the state Universal Basic Education for the benefit of all,’’ he said .
Salisu also said , “because of the success and achievements recorded by the state MDGs office in 2013 under the 2012 MDGs intervention, the presidency has given approval for the commencement of the 2014 MDGs projects under the 2013 intervention.
“Governor Tanko Al-Makura, has approved 156 projects to be executed in Doma, Lafia, Keana, Wamba, Keffi and Karu local government areas, with six months completion period.”
He said the MDGS office would focus on the construction, renovation, equipping and sinking of boreholes in primary health care centres, clinics and primary schools.
The aide appealed to the communities where the projects would be cited to protect them against vandalism.
He urged the residents to support the Al-Makura-led administration to enable him deliver more dividends of democracy.
