2015: INEC Commissioners Pledge Free, Fair Elections
Some resident electoral
commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have pledged their collective resolve to ensure free and fair election in 2015.
They gave the assurance in separate interviews with our correspondent in Port Harcourt, recently.
The commissioners said that the commission was putting necessary mechanism in place to ensure a crisis-free general election next year.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Rivers, Mr Aniedi Ikoiwak , urged political parties to cooperate with INEC to avoid recurrence of the 2011 election crises in the country.
“INEC is ready for the forthcoming elections, we are doing our best in putting up every infrastructure to make sure we take care of some lapses.
“The 2015 election time-table is timely, though criticised by some parties; I advise political parties to accept the time-table as it was duly drafted in line with electoral law.
“We had a stakeholders meeting with various political parties and also held a debate by the commissioners in the commission before the time-table was drafted.”
The INEC’s National Commissioner in charge of Lagos, Mrs Telma Eremiren, urged the electorates to take advantage of the continuous registration of voters.
She said the issuance of a bio-metric registration card by INEC would correct most of the anomalies experienced in past elections.
Eremiren said the commission would ensure that adequate voter education was conducted in the rural areas to guide the electorates.

Rivers Judiciary Denies Issuing Court Order Stopping SOLAD from Swearing in RSCSC Members
The Rivers State Judiciary has denied a media report claiming that Justice Frank Onyiri of the State High Court issued an injunction order restraining the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), from inaugurating the newly appointed members of the Rivers State Civil Service Commission (RSCSC).
In a statement issued by the Deputy Chief Registrar in charge of litigation at the High Court, Menenen Poromon (Esq), the state Judiciary disassociated itself from the report, describing it as malicious and fabricated.
The statement emphasized that the report was a falsehood and a misrepresentation of what transpeared in the court.
Poromon clarified that no such order was issued by Justice Onyiri or any other judge of the High Court of the state and urged the public to disregard the information, as it lacked any iota of truth.
The statement however advised the public to verify any information concerning the state Judiciary directly from the office of the Chief Registrar, High Court of the State, to avoid spreading of misinformation.
