Board Approves Caretaker Committee For Church
The Diocesan Board,
Diocese of Niger Delta North has ratified the appointment of a caretaker committee to administer St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, Nkpogwu in the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area.
This was part of the resolution issued from a white paper on the report of a 14-member Diocesan Committee set up to restore peace and order to the church.
The resolution which was signed by the Archbishop of the Province of Niger Delta and Bishop, Diocese of Niger Delta North, Most Rev. Ignatius Crosby Kattey and two others also commended the high-level of patience and maturity exhibited by the clergy and all peace-loving members of St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, Nkpogwu Deanery and enjoined them to forgive each other.
The Board also condemned the rebellious attitude of some members of the church who had continually harassed other worshippers who did not support their views as well as clergy and their wives posted to serve in St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, Nkpogwu Deanery and decided that henceforth any rebellious act would be met with ecclesiastical discipline in accordance with the Scripture.
“Henceforth, any form of intimidation of clergy or harmless worshippers by any person, or group of persons in St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, Deanery would be treated as serious offence and also be dealt with accordingly”.
According to the board, since the Anglican Church is part of the one, Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church, all in St. Matthew’s (Anglican) Church, Nkpogwu Deanery and indeed the Diocese of Niger Delta North who wish to be part of it must respect its age-long customs which we believe are in line with the scriptures, tradition and reason and over the years been tried, tested and trusted.
The Diocesan Board further maintained that henceforth and in line with the previsions of the Constitution and Financial instructions of the Diocese, signatories to all Church Bank Accounts should be the Chairman (Rector or Vicar), Treasurer and Secretary with the chairman as the only principal (‘A’) signatory.
The Diocesan Board further directed that all current lay signatories to all the Bank accounts of St. Matthew’s (Anglican) Church, Nkpogwu Deanery be replaced with new ones from the Caretaker Committee until such a time when election would be held in line with Diocesan regulations.

Rivers Judiciary Denies Issuing Court Order Stopping SOLAD from Swearing in RSCSC Members
The Rivers State Judiciary has denied a media report claiming that Justice Frank Onyiri of the State High Court issued an injunction order restraining the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), from inaugurating the newly appointed members of the Rivers State Civil Service Commission (RSCSC).
In a statement issued by the Deputy Chief Registrar in charge of litigation at the High Court, Menenen Poromon (Esq), the state Judiciary disassociated itself from the report, describing it as malicious and fabricated.
The statement emphasized that the report was a falsehood and a misrepresentation of what transpeared in the court.
Poromon clarified that no such order was issued by Justice Onyiri or any other judge of the High Court of the state and urged the public to disregard the information, as it lacked any iota of truth.
The statement however advised the public to verify any information concerning the state Judiciary directly from the office of the Chief Registrar, High Court of the State, to avoid spreading of misinformation.
