Bayelsa To Build Modern Fire-Fighting Stations
The Bayelsa Government
has concluded arrangements to build modern fire fighting stations to enhance the capacity of the Fire Service to respond to emergencies.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, Mr James Dugo, who announced this at a news briefing in Yenagoa, Friday stressed that the State Government was committed to investing in the training and re-training of the firemen.
The commissioner explained that government’s decision was geared towards empowering the fire service in its operations and use of modern fire-fighting equipment.
Dugo said 58 men employed by the previous administration without prerequisite training in fire fighting, had received comprehensive training at Premium Fireman College, Ikeja, Lagos.
The commissioner added that equipment and other working tools were being provided to enable staff do their job professionally and efficiently and urged the management and staff of the service to utilise equipment available to them for the benefit of the state.
Dugo said that Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) would be supplying equipment to the fire service in support of the state government’s efforts.
The equipment, he said, include: two units of 20,000-litre water tankers, two units of fire fighting trucks and one unit of 30 metre Hydraulic Aerial Fire Fighting Truck.
He warned that government would not accept any lapses on the part of the fire service in the event of fire outbreak in view of the huge investment in it.
