Oshiomhole Charges Christians On National Issues
Governor Adams
Oshiomhole of Edo State has urged the Christian community to speak out on issues affecting the co-existence of the nation without fear or favour.
Oshiomhole gave the advice, Monday in Benin, when the national executive members of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) visited him at the Government House.
He noted that beyond prayers, the nation needed additional voice on issues threatening democracy, adding that when dictators govern, even the church would be affected.
He explained that current events in the country indicated that the nation was trying to tread on ground that could threaten democracy.
The governor, therefore, appealed to Christian community to speak out so as to build a God- fearing nation, saying that Nigeria was facing a very challenging time.
He said it would be in the interest of the citizenry to sustain democracy and that ordinary people were mostly affected as they suffer the consequences of bad leadership.
Oshiomhole stressed that as a governor, he was worried about high level of sycophancy and people seeking power without purpose.
He promised that the Edo Government would build a secretariat for CAN before the end of the year.
The governor said that CAN had always acted as guide to the state government, adding that development in the state would not have been possible without the active support of the association.
Earlier, the Secretary General of CAN, Mr Musa Asaka, who led the delegation, urged the Edo government to continue with the good work of developing the state.
He assured the government of the support of the association.
