1,943 Benefit From Senator’s Medical Outreach
Not fewer than 1,943 persons have so far benefited from the ongoing Senator George Sekibo annual free medical outreach in Rivers East-Senatorial District.
Programme Manager, Key of Life Foundation (partners in the programme) , Mr Samuel Dunkan, who disclosed this yesterday to The Tide at Ndashi, in Etche Local Government Area, Rivers State, said the programme has covered Ogu/Bolo, Okrika and Emohua and moves on to Ikwerre Local Government Area where about 170 persons have so far received attention.
Dunkan said 741 cases were trated in Ogu/Bolo where the programme kicked off 20th May, 2013 just as Okrika recorded 520 while Emohua recorded 482 cases.
Arthritis, Diabetes, High Blood Pressure and malaria were the common cases, according to Mr Dunkan, with malaria topping the list.
He also indicated that several surgical operation cases were also handled.
He advised the people to always use mosquito-treated nets and to drastically reduce stagnant water areas in their surroundings to reduce malaria attacks.
Ephraim Osi, a native of Emohua who was operated upon yesterday, said he was excited by the benevolence of Senator Sekibo.
“what my people could not do for me, the Senator had done it for me. May God bless him and the health personnel,” he said, and urged other Nigerians in high positions of trust to dmulate the senator.
Also speaking, another patient, Onyekachi Nwosu, operated of Hernia, commended the senator for picking the programme bills and prayed God to always protect and guide him as the reaches out to more less privileged in the society.
Hon Agbam Kelvin, legislative Aide to the Senator told newsmen that the programmes covers the eight local government areas in Rivers East Senatorial District, and aimed at assisting persons with health challenges, especially the less privileged.
According to him, it will last for two months and is part of the constituency projects of the senator.
The lawmaker’s aide advised the people of the constituency to make the best advantage of the programme by making themselves available at the outreach centres spread across the district.
He noted that though the senator’s constituency projects extend to other areas including micro-credit for widows, and scholarship for orphans in tertiary schools, remarked that the lawmaker is passionate about the health programme.
