PH Customs Area One Generates N10bn Revenue
Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Area One, Command , Port Harcourt generated a revenue of N10, 953,695,638.00 billion in the first quarter of the year 2013.
A breakdown of the amount showed that the command in the month of January realized the sum of N2,093,543,236.00 billion, and in February generated N2,120, 211,772.00, while in March, its revenue generated improved up to N4,487,153,347.00 billion.
In the month of April, the command raked the sum of N2,252,787,283.00 billion.
Briefing The Tide correspondent in his office, yesterday the Customs Area One Public Relations Officer, Mr Samuel Harry said the command was given a revenue target of N79,200.000.00 billion for the year 2013, which means the command is expected to generate the sum of N6,000.000.00 billion every month.
Mr Harry said despite odds, but with special grace of God, they would meet up their target because the Area Controller, Comptroller Dan Garba Kuffi is focused, hand working and disciplined with sterling qualities.
The Customs image maker for Port Harcourt Port Area One hinted that Area One is mainly a port for bulk cargoes only, which included rice, cement, frozen fish, bulk wheat, bulk salt among others, stressing that the command realized huge amount of revenue from rice at the Port.
He lamented that with the Federal Government Policies on duty rate and levy for rice importation saying that the increase of 100 per cent levy on rice importation is as good as banning the product, although it was aimed at encouraging local rice producers.
Mr Harry also complained that the roads to the Port needed to be dualised and given a face-lift, as containers could fall off the trailer and also called for the dredging of the sea to the Port.
On security wise, he assured that the Area is safe as some importers still have the believe of militancy in the area, enjoining them to patronise the Port.
It would be recalled that the command was given a revenue target of N48,000.000.00 billion for the year 2012, but was able to sun passed it by N450,000,000.00 million by the efforts of the controller, Comptroller Dan Garba Kuffi and his able officers.
