NLNG’s Scholarship Scheme Kicks Off 2013
The Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) says its newly approved overseas Post-Graduate Scholarship programme would kick-start in September, 2013 along side the post-primary scholarship, the renewed undergraduate scholarship, and the cadet scholarship for Nigerian citizens.
The NLNG General Manager, External Relations, Ms Siene Allwell – Brown announced the commencement of the programme Wednesday at the post-graduate scholarship media launch in Port Harcourt.
According to the NLNG Manager, the overseas programme is aimed at supporting the emergence of indigenous experts, especially, within the oil and gas region.
She said the post-graduate scholarship scheme would support ten students with scholarship to pursue various studies in Engineering, Geosciences, Environmental studies, management science, Information technology, Law and medicine at masters degree level in leading Universities in the United Kingdom.
Ms Allwell-Brown explained that NLNG is partnering with the British Council, an internationally recognised service provider in scholarship management and partnership brokerage in higher education all over the world, in the post-graduate scholarship as the administrative partner.
She further explained that five out of 10 NLNG’s host communities, two from other communities within Rivers State, and three would come from other parts of Nigeria .
He said the number of awards and allocations might change in subsequent years.
Explaining the motive of the scholarship, Mr. Allwell- Brown said the scholarship would cover full tuition fees, monthly stipends for living expenses and expenses to cover ticket from Nigeria to the United Kingdom.
Mr. Allwell – Brown further explained that the potential beneficiaries of the programme must be Nigerians resident in Nigeria and that candidates must possess a 2nd Class Upper – degree in a relevant field.
Mr. NLNG general Manager pointed out that over 2,500 undergraduate students have benefited from the on-going undergraduate scholarship scheme by the company.
He also disclosed that over N60 million has been spent so far in the establishment of Bonny Education endowment fund, now know as Integrated Top-Up scheme, which tops up salaries of teachers in Bonny to keep them motivated.
