Demolition Hammer Dangles On Abonnema Wharf
The demolition bulldozer will soon get to the Abonnema wharf area of Port Harcourt in the on-going urban renewal exercise and the systematic returning of Port Harcourt to its original Garden City status.
Sources at the ministry of urban development, said that the final stage of negotiation with owners of properties in the area was being carried out.
It was gathered that the family of late Chief Marshal Harry is in the fore-front in the negotiation process, as they are believed to be the highest owner of properties in the area.
Late Marshall Harry, according to sources is in control of about 60 percent of properties in the Abonnema wharf area, and that a high level negotiation was still going on between the state commissioner for urban development, Dr. Tammy Danagogo and the family. It was learnt that as soon as compensations were fully paid, the demolition exercise will commence.
The delay recorded in the process of negotiation, it was gathered, followed variation that was later introduced by the family of the late chief, reviewing the value of the properties up-ward to meet with the current realities in the property value.
It would be recalled that the Ministry of Urban Development’s on-going demolition of some structure in Port Harcourt is aimed at returning Port Harcourt to its original Garden City status.
