FADAMA: 15 LGAs Get N250m In Rivers
The Rivers State Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Emmanuel Chindah, has stated that the state government has disbursed a total of N250 million Fadama III project funds to 15 local government areas that have met their counterpart fund obligation since the inception of the project.
Hon Chindah stated this on Tuesday while flagging-off a three-day Lenders Mid-Term review mission on Fadama III project in South-South/South-East zones, held at Beverly Hills Hotels and Resort, Port Harcourt.
He said that the project has improved the standard of living of rural dwellers who are beneficiaries of the Fadama III projects following the financing of group owned projects in over 316 Fadama Users Groups (FUGs) in 57 Fadama Community Associations (FCAs) of the state.
He noted that the Mid-Term review mission is aimed at assessing the implementation progress and proffer timely technical/administrative corrective measures in areas of weaknesses or departures from the project development objectives, as well as providing the opportunity to interact with both the technocrats and other key players in the implementation process of the project.
The commissioner re-affirmed the state government’s comment towards revolutionalising the agricultural sub-sector of the state saying that they are visible projects and programmes that address the needs of the agrarian communities in the state.
He advised beneficiaries of Fadama programmes to show concern for the success and sustainability of the programme and ensure strict compliance with funds flow procedures and proper documentation as laid down by the project statutes.
Chindah also urged federal government to intensify efforts towards the success of the project and called for more awareness to be created.
