Bayelsa Plans Airport At Ogbia
Bayelsa State government has concluded arrangements to construct another airport at Ogbia community in Ogbia, President Goodluck Jonathan’s local government area of the state.
Already ,a survey mapping and visibility jobs have been concluded on the site and funds have been disbursed to the contractors to enable them mobilise to site according to the State Commissioner for Finance, Mr Stephen Ogula.
However, observers see this as not only a white elephant project but a mere political talk by Chief Sylva who was schemed out of the governorship race of the state coming up next month.
Speaking with journalists on Wednesday in Yenagoa, Mr Ogula said the construction of the new airport was necessary because of the facts that Federal Government has decided to take over the proposed cargo airport sited at Okordia-Zarama along the East-West road.
Ogula said the proposed airport is projected to be a first class edifice that could compare favourably with any other one in the world.
The Commissioner also disclosed the intention of government to dualise the Bayelsa Oil Palm road to Elebele in Ogbia local government, just as he also said that Sagbama town will soon be linked to the national grid to boost electricity in the area.
According to him, government had directed contractors handling the three senatorial roads in the state to return to site as they have been mobilised, stressing that the Yenagoa gate way road project was in progress.
The Governor’s aide assured that government would continue to provide its social responsibility to the people of the state by opening up the rural areas to enhance development.
He revealed that the ongoing 500-bed hospital would be a referral centre in the state would soon be inaugurated by government to boost health care services.
