RSG To Demolish Illegal Structures Along Trans-Amadi
The Rivers state government is to embark on the demolition of illegal structures along the Trans-Amadi axis, especially within the zoo and slaughter area.
Making this known when he met with market leaders and transport operators within the area, the state Commissioner for Urban Development, Dr. Tammy Danagogo stated that the demolition exercise will be carried out before the end of this year.
He said that shops and other illegal structures that were erected which have defaced the area will be demolished, adding that government will not fold its hands and watch people erect structures that will destroy the beauty of the environment.
The Commissioner explained that the state government and indeed the present administration led by Rt Hon. Chibuike Amaechi is interested in the beauty of the environment and hence have embarked on the demolition exercise so as to give room for proper planning of the area.
Dr Danagogo also said that government will go ahead to install gates in some areas around the trans-Amadi zoo so as to prevent people from taking advantage of empty spaces for trading activities.
He therefore urged traders and transport operators within the area as well as butchers to cooperate with government, so as to ensure a hitch-free exercise and proper planning of the area.
