NBA Charts Path To Economic Growth
As a follow-up to its 2011 Annual Dinner billed to hold in Lagos on Thursday, the Lagos Chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has called on Nigeria’s economic and political leaders to engender economic growth by taking full responsibility for their actions and words.
This comes as the chapter announced, in a statement, that it would honour 10 distinguished Nigerians in this year’s event.
According to Chairman of the Fund Raising Committee, Mr. Annire Kanyi, those to be honoured are top commercial and litigation lawyers.
He revealed that aside the erudite Chief Wole Olanipekun, other awardees are seasoned, time-tested and well-grounded experts in their chosen field.
They include Prof. Alfred Bandele Kasumu SAN, Mr. Frank Akinrele SAN, Mrs. Harriet Balogun, Mrs. Muri-Okunola, Mr. Christ Okeke, Mr. Asue Ighodalo, Mr. Gbenga Oyebode, Mr. George Etomi and Ms. Funke Aboyade.
He said a committee, overseen by Mr. Dagogo Karibi–Whyte as Chairman, was set up to pilot the event.
Also in a statement, Karibi-whyte said although the Lagos NBA has over 700 lawyers, the committee expects about 400 of them for the award night.
The event, which is one of the most significant yearly rituals of the body, marks the coming together of the members of the professional group to sound out its positive voice, which the body said, had influenced key national policy decisions.
According to the President, the NBA is resolved to continue to add value to quality of life by drumming support for good governance and economic development, as economic and political “leaders take full responsibilities of their actions and words.”
The Lagos NBA Dinner, he said, is a continuation of a way of life that is an integral tradition of the profession.
The branch, according to the statement called back the Lagos NBA Annual Dinner to set the pace as the premium branch of the Association.
“The platform is for serious networking with a blend of colleagues and clients in a more relaxation mood,” the body said.
