SSANU Gives Strike Notice To Governing Council
The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), chapter has issued a 21-day strike notice to the Governing Council of the institution.
The union urged the governing council to rescind its decision on the suspension of the registrar and bursar within 21 days.
The notice is in a statement signed by the union Chairman, Mr. Dako Etafia, and Secretary, Mr. Orobosa Ohikhena and released in Ekpoma on Wednesday.
The union described the action the council Chairman, Chief Nosakhare Isekhure, as an aberration.
The council had acted on the resolution of Edo State House of Assembly and issued letters of suspension to the two principal officers to step aside pending the investigations into financial impropriety levelled against them.
During a peaceful protest at the main campus of the university in Ekpoma, on Wednesday, Etafia said the two principal officers were not notified of their offences.
He said the suspension letters did not follow the normal channel of communication in the university, as only the chairman of council signed them.
The union leader equally alleged that the two officers were suspended when no panel had been constituted to investigate the financial dealings of the university.
He also said the officers were not given fair hearing as contained under section 36 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as they were neither queried nor compelled to face the appropriate disciplinary committee.
The union members carried placards with various inscriptions, chanted and marched round the campus.
