A’Ibom Assemby Passes N102bn Supplementary Budget
The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has passed a supplementary budget of N102 billion as presented by Governor Godswill Akpabio in September.
The supplementary budget was made up of N7.4 billion as recurrent expenditure and N94.6 billion as capital expenditure.
Mr Onofiok Luke, representing Nsit Ubium and the House Committee Chairman on Appropriation and Finance, presented the bill before the lawmakers on Wednesday in Uyo for deliberation.
The house later dissolved into the Committee of the Whole House for thorough debate of the budgetary estimate clause by clause.
At the end of the deliberation, a motion was moved by the House Leader, Mr Okpolupum Ette, for the house to reconvene and read the bill for the third time.
The motion was seconded by Mr Eyakeno Etukudo, representing Ibesikpo Asutan.
After the third reading, the house leader, Mr Ime Okon, representing Ibiono Ibom State Constituency, moved a motion for the passage of the bill.
The House Speaker, Mr Samuel Ikon, later directed Clerk of the House, Mrs Mandu Umoren, to communicate the decision of the house to the executive governor for action.
Ikon urged the Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to always outline clearly their anticipated targets against each project plan and programmes.
Akpabio, while presenting the supplementary budget, said that there was need for realignment.
He said that the recurrent supplementary estimate was to take care of the new national minimum wage.
The governor said that the capital expenditure was intended for the infrastructural development of the state.
