The Special Adviser to the Delta State Governor on Education Monitoring, Pastor Rhoda Ikede, has restated the state government’s readiness to revamp and equip the state owned libraries for effective service delivery.
Ikede who stated this when she paid a courtesy visit on the Director in the Delta State Library Board, Mrs. F. S Anyanuelue said that she was in her office to ascertain the state of the libraries as well as the challenges facing them.
She attributed the poor performance in the recently released examination results by the National Examination Council (NECO) to poor condition of the libraries, regretted that students do not cultivate the culture of reading, just as she said that the libraries were in dire need of up to date books and other reference materials.
The Special Adviser said that without well-equipped libraries for students to carry out their researches, the standard of education would continue to degenerate.

In another development, the Special Adviser attended an interactive meeting at the instance of the commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Patrick Muoboghare with the secretaries of Local Education Authority and Chief Inspectors of Education in the 25 local government areas of the state.
She said that she would partner with the commissioner to move the education sector forward, adding that all stakeholders should see it as a point of duty to contribute their quota.
Pastor Ikede enjoined them to carry out regular and thorough monitoring of schools with a view to checkmating examination malpractice, saying that the syndrome had eaten deep into education sector.
Earlier, the commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Patrick, Muoboghare admonished Principals of secondary schools to take their job seriously, adding that was the only way they could justify the huge money the state government had invested in the sector.
Prof. Muoboghare said that government had procured laptops for secondary schools across the state, saying that this initiative was in line with government’s determination to ensure that schools in the state were ICT compliant.
He said that government would continue to make the school environment conducive for teaching and learning by teachers and students.
