NSE Partners FCTA To Develop Satellite Towns
Mrs Olajumoke Akinjide, the Minister of State, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), says government will partner with the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) in the development of FCT satellite towns.
Akinjidemade the statement when executives of the Abuja Branch of the NSE paid her a courtesy visit in her office on Saturday.
She said that a committee had already been set up to look into the restructuring of the FCDA and department charged with responsibility to manage satellite towns in FCT, a territory spanning over 8,000sq km.
“ Our government is totally committed to streamlining all functions of the department and ensuring that the territory is well developed.
“ I am a lawyer by profession. I am a strong advocate of local content and I need your input.
“You should also be sure of the credibility of your advocacy. Send a copy to me and another to the Director, Special Duties,” she stressed’.
She said FCT and NSE were partners in progress and that the present government should be seen as “a Rapid Response Government”.
Earlier, Mr Joseph Akinteye, the Chairman of NSE, Abuja Branch, outlined challenges faced by Engineers.
“Some of the issues faced included assistance in tackling the problems of collapsed buildings and in this regard, we are calling for the restructuring of FCT Departments to effectively address this challenge and to speed up the slow pace of work in the satellite towns.
He also spoke of the need to patronise indigenous engineers, while criticising the attitude of FCT workers on the issue tackling flood challenges and installation of digital cameras especially at very important areas and in providing support for tree planting in the FCT.
Reports say that the minister gave the committee six weeks to submit its recommendation to the ministry and FCT committee on how to improve facilities in the territory.
