Bank Customers Lament Poor Services From ATMs
Some users of Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) in Jos, Plateau, have lamented the poor services from the machines in many parts of the State capital.
They told newsmen in Jos yesterday that they were tired of using the machines since most of them were not functioning well.
They said that services from the machines were disappointing.
“I am not comfortable with the ATM services. I have tried to use the services on a number of occasions, but got disappointed whenever I needed it most.
“I have since lost interest and prefer to cash money using cheques,’’ said Mr Sunday Adakole, an insurance broker in Hwolshe.
He said that his ATM card was once trapped in one of the machines while trying to withdraw money and that the money was not even dispensed.
“The money was deducted, but never dispensed. Whenever complaint was lodged, the bank official would just advise you to apply for refunds.
“This often takes many days and you will only be lucky to get paid at the end of the day,’’ he said.
A worker in Jos South Local Government, who pleaded anonymity, said that she had stopped using the facility after her money was stolen through ATM.
“There was a time I withdrew N20, 000 from the N40, 000 in my account, but when I checked my balance, I discovered that only N100 was left.
“I rushed to the bank’s Customer Care Centre and lodged complaint, but I was told that there was another withdrawal at Asokoro in Abuja.
“I have never been to Abuja, so, I was at a loss as to what could have happened.
“I tried to explain that I did not make that withdrawal, but no one was prepared to listen to me,” she said.
She said that the bank later wrote to tell her that they suspected ATM fraud.
“That letter was expected to effectively end any communication over the matter. That was how I just lost my money. It was very traumatic.
Malam Abdulmalik Shehu, a resident at Delimi area in Jos North, said that he had a similar experience sometimes ago.
“After that experience, I asked them to block the ATM card and I will never use it again,” he said.
