Youth Leader Tasks Amaechi On Peace
The President of Ikwerre Bu-Otu Peace Movement, an adjunct organisation under the umbrella of the Ogbakor-Ikwerre, Comrade Prince Ihunwo, has expressed hope that the re-election of Governor Chibuike Amaechi would bring lasting peace to warring communities in Ikwerre land.
Ihunwo gave the indication in a chat with journalists last weekend in Port Harcourt as he hailed the Governor’s victory at the gubernatorial elections.
The youth leader who described Amaechi’s victory as divine, noted that more needed to be done to ensure that some of the communities which have witnessed internal crisis resolve their differences, as a way of attracting development.
He remarked that the Ikwerre Bu-Otu Movement had over the years initiated several peace talks in different Ikwerre communities that had witnessed internal crisis, even as he tasked the governor to use his good offices in providing a platform for final reconciliation.
Some of the communities, according to Ihunwo that needed to be given special attention Ihunwo noted, include Ogbogoro, Obele, Emohua, Rumuekini, and Rumudiogha.
Ihunwo stated that though there is relative peace in those communities as at present, the remote causes of their internal crisis need to be permanently addressed to ensure that a lasting peace returns to the area.
He stated that his organisation has commenced reconciliatory moves in Ogbakiri, which according to him, is being rebuilt courtesy of Ogbakor Ikwerre.
The youth leader hailed the President of Ogbakor Ikwerre, Chief Sampson Agbaru, who he noted has moved the body beyond ethnic boundaries towards restoring peace and unity in Ikwerre communities.
Ihunwo described Governor Amaechi as a peace loving leader considering the level of security witnessed in the state since the inception of his administration in 2007.
He hailed the Federal Government for the amnesty programme, but advised that efforts should be made by the authorities and to detract the process.
