Association Wants Govt’s Grant For Charity Homes
The River State branch of the Surveyors Wives Association of Nigeria has called for regular grants by the government to charity homes in the state.
The president of the Association, Barrister Vero Efika made this while donating food and the items worth thousands of naira to the Home for the Elderly, Harbour Road Port Harcourt.
Mrs. Efika also advocated for the provision of equipment to the social welfare department to enable it respond to the needs of the less-privileged in the society.
The Association president however thanked the Catholic Church for the vision to establish the Home for the Elderly, noting that the situation has given sucour to the inmates most of whom have been abandoned by their children and relations.
Also speaking, the secretary of the Association, Mrs. Florence Okwu explained that the association decided to visit the home to celebrate with the inmates in order to give them a sense of belonging.
Mrs. Okwu said that the gesture would be extended to all charity homes in the state, and stressed the need to other organizations to emulate the gesture.
Responding, the Matron of the Home, Sister Jane Raphael thanked the Association for the gesture, pledging to put the materials into judicious use.
Sister Raphael also challenged other public-spirited organizations to come to the aid of the homes as many of the inmates have been abandoned by their people.
