17 LGs Spend N14bn On Road Projects
The 17 Local Government Councils in Yobe have jointly funded road projects worth N14 billion through the joint account in the last two years.
The Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Alhaji Bukar Dauda, said this at a news briefing in Damaturu last Wednesday.
“The 17 local government councils through the state and local government joint account law directly funded the projects,” he said.
The commissioner said Tarmuwa, Fika, Fune, Bade and Karasuwa Local Government Councils alone had spent more than N4.6 billion on the road projects.
“They constructed eight roads, bridges, culverts and drainage to improve transportation in their respective rural communities,” he said.
Dauda explained that about 1,000 kilometres of roads had either been solely-funded by the councils or jointly-funded in collaboration with the state government.
The commissioner said that the 17 local government councils had also jointly bought assorted drugs worth N176 million to facilitate the free drugs programme.
“The 17 local government councils provided more than N144 million logistics support for the successful conduct of the various immunisation exercises in 2010.
Dauda also said seven local government councils jointly purchased customised ambulances at N86.2 million.
He said that the capital projects were jointly-funded to ensure their speedy completion.
