Murder:Police Vows To Arrest Culprits
Akwa Ibom Police Command has vowed to arrest those behind the alleged murder of Dr Akpan Akpaudo, a gynaecologist at St. Luke Hospital, Anua in Uyo.
Akpaudo was reportedly killed on New Year’s eve within the hospital premises by yet to be identified gunmen while driving toward the doctors’ quarters.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the state command, Mr Onyeka Orji, made the vow while speaking with in Uyo on Tuesday.
“We will bring everything that has to do with our expertise to bear on this investigation,” Orji said.
He said that some politicians had been invited for interrogation in connection with the alleged murder.
The police spokesman, who did not mention the names and number of persons who had been invited for interrogation, said that some aspirants in Mkpat Enin State Constituency were among those interrogated.
The current state legislator representing Mkpat Enin, Mr Ekong Sampson and the current local government chairman, Mr Mfon Nkanteen, are among aspirants vying for the Assembly seat under the PDP platform.
Akpaudo was until his death, a Consultant/Senior Registrar with the State Hospital Management Board in charge of Maternity Unit at St. Luke Hospital, Uyo.
He was also a House of Assembly aspirant for Mkpat Enin State constituency in the 2011 elections.
The murder of Akpaudo came 48 hours to the PDP’s primaries for state House of Assembly aspirants in Akwa Ibom.
The murder of Akpaudo took place a few days after the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Sani Magaji, addressed politicians on the need to hold peaceful elections.
Magaji had earlier warned politicians in the state against carrying firearms and threatened to deal with anybody found liable.
Our correspondent further reports that because of anticipated skirmishes, PDP state House of Assembly primaries for some local government areas will be held at the state Police Headquarters in Uyo.
