The Commissioner of Police Rivers Command Mr. Sulieman Abba told newsmen that the arrest was made following a discreet investigation of a threat of kidnap, reported by the lady, Mrs Joan Nwanoro.
He said Mrs Nwanoro, who resides at N0 29 Nembe Road, Rumuoibekwe Estate, reported to the Refinery Police Division that in the past one week, she had received several threat messages through a GSM No. 080666873853 ordering her to pay in N100,000.00 into A/C Number 00860680045353 else her daughter will be kidnapped.
The Commissioner said following this report, a thorough investigation was carried out on October 30, 2010, which led to the arrest of one ThankGod Ukaegbu of No. 9 Niger Street, Port Harcourt, who eventually led Police detectives to the arrest of his cohort, Ugochukwu Enyeribe and Chidiebere.
Mr. Abba disclosed that search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of the GSM phones used in committing the offence.
He said, on interrogation the suspects confessed involvement in the offence. Meanwhile, the Anti-kidnapping unit has commenced further investigation and subsequent arrest of all those in connection of the act.
