RSG To Recruit More Pharmacists In Hospitals
The Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Dr Sampson Parker, has reiterated the need for the Rivers State Government to absorb more pharmacists in the service of the state to meet the health needs of the people through effective drug administration.
The commissioner disclosed this during an advocacy visit of the Rivers State chapter of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) to his office, last Tuesday.
The commissioner decried the dearth of medical professionals such as pharmacists and doctors in the state, stating that the development had militated against effective medical practice in the state.
He said employment opportunities for pharmacists existed at the Rivers State Civil Service Commission and the government had earlier advertised to that effect but had not received a commensurate response.
The commissioner assured that the Rivers State government was ready to collaborate with the society to enhance effective medical practice in the state.
Earlier in her remarks, the chairman of the Rivers State chapter of the society, Miss Elizabeth Odili had said that the pharmaceutical society of Nigeria, the umbrella body of all registered pharmacists in Nigeria visited the commissioner’s office to seek collaborative partnership in addressing the infiltration of quacks in drug administration in the state.
She commended the effort of the state government in collaborating with the National Agency for Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the Naitonal Drug Law Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA) in shutting down the operation of some fake drug sellers in a bid to rid the state of adulterated drugs.
She also spoke against any plan to allocate any part of the new mile one market to drug sellers as it was against the law. She also called for the revamping of the Rivers State-owned manufacturing laboratory for cost effective production of relevant drugs in the state.
