Court To Decide Senibo’s Investiture In Opobo, Tuesday
A Bori High Court has fixed May 11, 2010 for hearing in a suit instituted by Sunday Wariso and 12 other members of Chief Jim Wariso War Canoe House in Opobo over Senibo’s investiture.
The suit, no BHC/60/2006, is aimed at restraining the respondents, Messrs Igoni Williams Park, Andrew Wariso, Dr Kennedy Wariso and two others purported to have abused the due process for choosing Wari Senibos (elders) according to the custom of Opobo people.
They also sought an order of the court to restrain the 8th defendant, HRM King Dandeson Jaja, the Amayanabo of Opobo, from recognising or treating the respondents as the Seniapu of Chief Wariso War Canoe House.
After hearing the matter on April 28, 2010 at Bori, the court adjourned the case to 11th of May after the counsel to the plaintiff, Opufaa Ben-Whyte sought plea to introduce a new witness to the matter, which was not opposed by the defense counsel, Edward Obomanu.
The suit was instituted following the inability of both parties to settle out of court, since the defendants walked out at the venue of settlement.
The same court also dismissed a motion by the defendant seeking to strike out an interlocutory injunction on the ground that the matter had already been decided by the Opobo Alapu Council.
Presiding Judge, Justice Ahiakwo struck out the matter at the cost of N2,000 for delaying the court. He submitted that there was no evidence to prove that the matter had been decided by the Opobo Council of Alapus.

Rivers Judiciary Denies Issuing Court Order Stopping SOLAD from Swearing in RSCSC Members
The Rivers State Judiciary has denied a media report claiming that Justice Frank Onyiri of the State High Court issued an injunction order restraining the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), from inaugurating the newly appointed members of the Rivers State Civil Service Commission (RSCSC).
In a statement issued by the Deputy Chief Registrar in charge of litigation at the High Court, Menenen Poromon (Esq), the state Judiciary disassociated itself from the report, describing it as malicious and fabricated.
The statement emphasized that the report was a falsehood and a misrepresentation of what transpeared in the court.
Poromon clarified that no such order was issued by Justice Onyiri or any other judge of the High Court of the state and urged the public to disregard the information, as it lacked any iota of truth.
The statement however advised the public to verify any information concerning the state Judiciary directly from the office of the Chief Registrar, High Court of the State, to avoid spreading of misinformation.
