2011 Elections: Rivers FIDA Begins Mass Mobilisation For Women
The Rivers State Chapter of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) has planned a mass mobolisation of women in the state to participate in the 2011 elections.
The State chairperson of the organisation Mrs Florence Fiberesima who made this known in an interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt also said that FIDA is working hard to ensure that Rivers women have access to good position in the forthcoming elections.
Meanwhile, the federation is adopting a multifaceted approach to check violence against women in the state.
Mrs Fiberesima, listed mass mobilisation, evidence based advocacy, capacity building and service delivery as some of the approaches being adopted for eventual success.
According to her, the campaign is aimed at promoting zero – tolerance for violence against women in River State.
“FIDA Rivers is committed to empowering Rivers Women for effective participation in nation building.
In this mission, FIDA Rivers recognises violence against women as an obstacle to development, equality and peace, hence this campaign to end violence against women and the girl child” she said.
