Kono Methodist Women Celebrate ‘Mothering Sunday’
Every year, the Sunday after March 8, is usually celebrated as a “Mothering Sunday” among the orthodox churches. It is the climax of a week-long devotional activities by the women.
As it were, the choice of this day (Mothering Sunday) to celebrate womanhood in the religious sector, was a resolution of the churches governing council to also let the Christian woman showcase her values and potentials while she is honoured and appreciated.
To this end, women of Rev. Paul Kingston Methodist Church Nigeria, Kono in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, last Sunday joined their womenfold in other churches across the globe to celebrate “Mothering Sunday”.
In his sermon to mark the day, the prestbyter in charge of the church, Rev. M.K. Nwibiabubari, noted that as women celebrate their successes in the past, they must not relent to work toward adding values to the church and asking for God’s intervention to heal the society.
Rev. Nwibiabubari said it was expedient that as pillars of the homes, woman ought to make the work of God successful, even in the face of problems, stress and tribulations.
Also preaching to mark the day, the Senior Circuit Steward, Sister LebaBari Wifa urged the women to reflect on their lives as Christians and make their homes viable in these challenging times, to the glory of God and humanity.
Using biblical quotations to buttress her sermon, Sister Wifa said, Christian women, as they celebrate “Mothering Sunday”, should remain strong in prayers, show care, love and support to others especially the needy, and more importantly, rise to the challenge of repositioning the homes in order to build a better future for societal greatness.
The personalities that graced the occasion were HRH, C.B.S. Nwikina Ema III, Menebua Bom, Engr. Meelubari Mmeo, Friday Nwinudee, Director/Editor, Rivers State Newspaper Corporation, among others.
