Making the presentation on Thursday in Uyo, the Executive Director of MPN in charge of External Affairs, Mrs Gloria Essien-Danner, said that each of the beneficiaries would be entitled to N160,000 for two years.
A breakdown of the scholarship grants show that each beneficiary will get N70,000 per year for two years in addition to N20,000 grant for final year project.
Danner said that the grants were subject to student academic performance, “as we believe in encouraging and rewarding excellence,” she emphasised.
“This gesture by NNPC/MPN is in line with our commitment to support youth development, capacity building and health care delivery system,” Danner said.
“This assistance to student nurses further complements NNPC/MPN’s annual provision of 500 undergraduate Scholarship Awards, out of which 50 per cent goes to indigenes of Akwa Ibom State,” she added.
She also donated two photocopying machines worth N500,000 to the Directorate of Nursing Services in the state.
Danner further presented Nl.8 million to St. Anthony’s Destitute Centre towards the procurement and installation of 15 KVA Generator at the centre.
Another less privileged centre, the Providence Home also got N600,000 to help equip its new building with furniture and welfare items.
Danner advised the beneficiaries of the grants to utilise them for the purpose they were intended.
In her address, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Louisa Ukpeh, thanked the management of MPN for its show of magnanimity to the student nurses.
“This scheme, I believe will serve as a booster to our students and will spur their level of interest in their studies.
“We earnestly believe that this will be a continuous exercise in your support for the efforts of Akwa Ibom government to build capacity and boost quality of health services,” she said.
