True Federalism, Panacea To N’Delta Problem – NGO
The African Youth Foundation for Peace and Community Development, a non-governmental organization in Nigeria has listed true federalism as one of the panaceas for the enthronement of lasting peace in the Niger Delta.
The president of the foundation, Dr George Ela, said this in an interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt.
Dr Ela who was speaking against the backdrop of this year’s International Peace Day in Port Harcourt also urged for good governance while the various governments in the region should provide infrastructures in their respective states.
Other suggestions include, the development of education in the region while the various communities should work for peace.
The group president also urged militants to embrace the amnesty programme, as that is the stepping stone towards the enthronement of peace in the Niger Delta.
Dr Ela said that the foundation which was formed to bring government attention to rural Africa has already established its presence in Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
He said that, the group has contributed towards societal development through the provision of free medical services to communities, while peace rallies have been held in various communities across the country.
